Subject: SMX-23 : a good choice for coastal defense?
nominoe    9/4/2007 10:22:35 AM
the New D.C.N. SMX-23 is a little submarine, about 800t, but heavily armed with 6 torpedoes tubes (Blackshark and SM-39 antiship). Designed for coastal operations, it can operate commandos, mines, and is equiped with electronic warfare and intelligence gathering system. This ship has a fair noise level and a very small size, which make it almost stealthy in a shallow water environment. Given their low cost, these ships can complete a submarine fleet, and replace big and costly ones for coastal defense, with a better coverage (in shallow water, long range detection is difficult and numbers matters). h*tp://www.dcnsgroup.com/us/innovation/p_smx23.html Any thoughts?
