Subject: AUV's and implications for torpedos
reefdiver    9/28/2007 11:13:52 AM
There are today a number of AUV's available to the commercial market. Typically these are designed to carry Sidescan sonar, magnetometers, or sub-bottom profilers and do autonomous surveys. Some are as small as 6' long. They can independently carry out a survey at about 3knots for as long as 24 hours before needing recovery and battery exchange.

These seem ideal for an offensive weapon. 20 hours at 3knots gives you about a 60nm range to target. I would think you could talk for hours about the possibilities.

I've not heard of any such submarine weapons - do they exist? The technology certainly does.
