If it can operate 100km from it's operator we can now have Destroyers or CG Cutter and the like deploying mine-hunting drones, right?  And it's small enough for a helo to deploy and retrieve it while the surface ship stays well over the horizon.

A SSK/SSN could also deploy several and sweep a large swath, unbeknownst to the hostile who laid the mines.

Finally with it's range it can be used by shore-based stations.

In other words it seems like this system is could be platform-independent, but to keep pressure on for the LCS these options prolly aren't on the table.  The real mission is acquisition, not protection of forces.

I think this is just bad word selection. 100km would be the total range of the Remus 600, how you would use it is the question.   Lets suppose that the sensors on the Remus 600 are capable of sweeping a 100m wide section of the seabed, then that 100km range translates to 10 km2 of area swept, say 1km wide by 10km long.. Suddenly doesn’t sound all that impressive does it? And it is at a speed of 3 knots.

But you are absolutely correct about how many different ways it can, and undoubtedly will, be deployed.
