And to get back on topic, as a retired submarine Sonar Technician, I think the Sonar Techs of today's submarine force are looking forward to the Block III boats, when Sonar will be back in it's own shack where it belongs, and not in Control. I wonder how long until the Block I and II boats are retrofitted to put Sonar back in Sonar. Maybe when they get retrofitted for females. That would be cost-effective.

HeavyD    Middle Names   6/16/2012 3:29:46 PM
Anyone remember Ronald Reagan's middle name - I never recall hearing mention of it.  Nor Jimmy Carters, Richard Nixons, Bill Clintons, and we only used Geo. Bush's to distinguish him from his pappy.

Me black?  I am the most clark-kent looking motherfucker you ever saw - in fact when I was rocking my birth control glasses as an enlisted soldier in the Army, I was called Clark Kent on several occasions.

That said I'll stand by my assertion that anyone who says Barak Hussein Obama has an agenda with racist overtones.  My grandparents on my father's side were Serbian - does that make me a genocidal maniac?  In fact my great-great grandfather was the late King Peter of Serbia.  Does that make me royalty?  (It would never stick tho - my father was a bastard - still is but that's a different story - his natural mother 'toured the West' in 1938 and squeezed him out in Cheyenne, returning back to NYC looking much trimmer...)

Back to mis-information:  If you exclude the 2009 budget that was signed by Bush, Obama has had LESS SPENDING INCREASES than any president in the last 20 years.  This is a FACT, people.

But trying to use logic to persuade in politics is like trying to use logic to explain why a Ford is better than a Chevy, or like trying to teach a fish to talk:  it ain't gonna work and it just frustrates the fish.

I'll concede, perhaps, that enunciating the jug-eared cluster$%#@'s full name (as if Barack wasn't weird enough) is meant to be insulting in some fashion - although a gentleman cannot be insulted by the truth.  Tell me, is "pappy" meant to be a like prod, or are you true Deep South and really call people "pappy" IRL?  I don't even call my father "daddy" and John Wayne would belt you for doing so.  So who's insulting whom? It's not like people tweaking Mitt Romney calling him "Willard"...or is it?  It would have a little more barb to it if Obama had tried to act normal and go by "Barry."

It would be funny as well as educational for you to look up the origins of the phrase, "Are you black, Mingus?"  Add +"Thelonious Monk" to your googling.   It's pretty funny then that you are as white as a sheet.  I'm glad most blacks I know have more sense than you've displayed so far.

No, not racist.  Xenophobic, perhaps, or religiously bigoted at the most; but race is the only reason he has gotten anywhere.  A young man with two white parents instead of one would never have been taken as far as he has based on his publicly available record.   And yes, I think there was a movie about it with John Goodman; if you are say the 495th in line for the Serbian throne, and the 494 above you all go down in a plane crash, you ARE the King of Serbia.   There are rules which I do not care to understand that govern it.

And if we had some ham we could have ham and eggs, if we had some eggs.  The stupid, it burns.

Yeah...if you're serving logic, I'll take vanilla.  Please don't think or act as if you are smarter than me or anyone else here (at least not me).  The kindest way I can think of to describe Obama's ambitions is that he wants to remake this nation into something very different; perhaps we will be fortunate and he will only turn us into a Western European social democracy type nation with no preeminence nor deserving of it.

I think a better analogy is Tolkien's, of how Orcs were made , by taking Elves and with torture and mutilation, turning them into something unrecognizable.  That's just what the United States of Obama would be - unrecognizable.

If that's what you want, by all means, keep on keeping on.  The funny thing is he could ensure reelection with some deft triangulation but he. Just. Won't. Do. It. Because he is so ideologically vapor-locked, because his people are young callow inexperienced yes-men, or both; or also for some other reason perhaps Michael Valentine Smith would understand.

Oh, stupid board software:  my first para above should have begun (I will rephrase since it is lost)

Walker
Jefferson
Herbert Walker
Wilson
Earl
R
Milhous
Baines
Fitzgerald
David
S
Delano
(Hoover?)
(Coolidge?)
Gamaliel
 (Wilson?)
Howard
(TR?)
(McKinley?)

That's the best I can do on the 20th Century without googling.  At various times they were frequently used.  Certainly Milhous sticks out.  As does Delano.  It's not exactly arcane nor particularly sinister, except inasmuch when your mom is mad at you you may get the "Ronald Wilson Reagan, you get in here right now!" treatment instead of the "C'mere, Ronnie, have some pie."   Maybe Obama has been bad and the United States is mad at him.

Excellent in-context usage of the ancient and powerful "I have a black friend" fist-of-glory arguepants technique.

For extra points you can go for the combo and use these imaginary black acquaintances to advocate your views directly. For example: "All my many black friends agree that race is the only reason he has gotten anywhere". Guaranteed win.

Just beautiful.

You know, I can only say what's true.  I don't know all black people, in fact I don't know very many black people.  (I hardly seem to know anybody anymore these days, my friends have been dying young.)  But aside from the Black Israelite gang that used to hold forth in Times Square, the blacks I have met don't talk this Mau-Mau crapple.  There is a little more going on in their lives.

I sensed that HeavyD was not black although seeming to "represent" as if he were, and it turns out I was correct, that he was merely a caricature.  IOW my BS detector is fully operational.  So what exactly are you queefing at me for, Reactive?

Nichevo    How sucky is this board, how did the software actually get WORSE?!?   6/19/2012 12:18:33 PM
Lame how this thing now cuts up replies.  It didn't use to do that.  Can it be rolled back?  Meanwhile, as I had meant to say at bottom, I could not talk that kind of gall ("my many black friends agree"), I would have to be a Leftist to do that.

I thought it was funny that's all, what I would say is that, as a society, we are, not now, (and perhaps not ever) able to have a mature discussion about race/culture, the two are separable and I would say a lot of problems attributed to the former are actually a result of the latter - the problem is that the various statistics relating to obvious social conditions, criminality, poverty, welfare, etcetera tell their own story so inevitably the "general" view, (rarely expressed publicly of course), is that certain negative traits are inherent (racial theory), there is (and will always be) ongoing arguments as to average intelligence among racial groups as an example, but the basic truth is that people from solid backgrounds tend to do well and people from broken, low income homes less so.

Paradoxically, being unable to discuss the issue in any meaningful terms actually perpetuates racism. In terms of "the black community" (and therefore a wary press/political class) the only acceptable causal factor behind any of the prevailing social issues affecting black people (not exclusively I add) is that they are caused by racism, it has become a useful tool to silence critics, the inherent threat of being labelled with a word that has become synonymous with "fascism" - with the related condition being that initial criticism of Barack Obama so was meticulously sanitised that it was essentially ineffectual.

Yes, he was given a free ride, at least in relation to the far more capable Hilldog, but then everyone got caught up in the notion that BO would serve as a role model for a generation of young black kids previously ill-served by the nihilistic message of posturing failure that is hiphop, as it happens BO, hasn't done much in the way of inspired leadership on that front, rather electing to use race very selectively indeed.

But then it's not like the electoral blight that was Sarah Palin helped the right either, did it?

All of the above was advocated by my many black friends.
