It might seem that what is required is decisiveness on the part of NATO. A buffer zone operation might be an improvement. It might also be such a half-measure that it might lead to a gradual and and indecisive conflict with Iran and Syria.

What is needed is a Powell Doctrine compliant, boots on the ground, insertion of NATO forces that shuts down the whole war (and ISIS) in the least amount of time.

Our president cannot supply the leadership that that would require. He and his domestic allies are too jealous of the public wealth they are devoting to the purpose of making themselves permanently dominant to allow any serious expenditure for national security.

So I would advise the Turks to stand pat unless they can gather an effective alliance without the UK and without the US.

Of course they would then have to deal with an Iran newly empowered by Obama and Kerry and all those dying to make money trading with Iran.
