I'm old enough to remember when we only saw U.S. soft and armored vehicles painted in woodland camouflage.  Ever since we got into the Sandbox in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, though, the default color has becomr Afrika Korps khaki.

Actually, it's the 1st Cavalry Division. You can see the large patch with horsehead and stripe.

Is the vehicle a 1st Cavalry Division asset, or just the guy in the vehicle commander's hatch?

I'm pretty sure it's a 1st Cav asset. A high res version of this photo and others is available from dvidshub.net which shows other vehicles with 1CAV identifiers. The captions on dvidshub.net also wrongly identify the unit as 1st Inf. My son is currently at NTC with the 3rd BCT of the 1st Cav.

Which explains much.  Betcha the StrategyPage guys got this photo from that same source, and accepted the identification as valid.  
 
I doubt that the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the First Team and the 3rd BCT of the Big Red One would be out there in the N.T.C. exercising simultaneously.
