when we start arguing about this bullshit.

what I'm reacting to is the bull$hit about the SEALs.
the difference is that some in here have real world experience or interaction with the SF community -  and a lot of what has been said about what the SEALs can or cannot do is just abject nonsense.
as I said before, those I have come across cringe at the crap that gets thrown around in threads like this as though its an unimpeachable fact
you see the same rubbish thrown around about the SAS.
any post that has "A vs B" in its thread title -  esp with respect to specwarries is an absolute wank.  I'd bet my left nut that most of the crap said in here by people about what US SOCOM do for a job is done by people who wouldn't know a specwarrie if he hit them in the head.  I'd bet my right nut that most of the kids who crap on in here have never met someone on the job or who was on the job.
having actually dealt with members of the SF community for various countries I absolutely recoil when I see this rubbish posted as fact and as a defence by some in promoting their own uninformed views - and usually based on idiotic books or internet sites they've come across or even worse, third hand from people claiming to be ex community but who wouldn't know someone who's been black (let alone green) from a dried up goat.

You can't assume that because you have met and worked with the SF community that your opinion is better than everyone elses here.

Of course, you're gonna have those kids that come on here and start spouting mythical bullshit.
I just ignore them, and pay attention to and respect the people who actually can use a reasoned argument with coherent sentences that DONT LOOK LYK DIS!

Look around, there are some very well reasoned points on this thread, you just have to look past all the bullshit.

Now on the flipside, there are a couple guys on here who have made some great rebuttals on my behalf, so good in-fact, that it converted me on the spot, and made me rethink what I was saying.

Isn't that what all this is about?

I joined this website knowing next to nothing, thinking I knew it all.
I've contributed my fair share of bullshit to this website, as I'm sure everyone has at one point or another.
I'm just glad that I can come on here after a long jog and actuallly learn something, give my opinion, then learn a little more.
I do consider you guys the "Experts" on military topics, as do many other people here online.

I've never stated that my involvement in these communities at a working level makes my input better than others - but it sure as hell gives me a firm basline based on facts to pass comment.

Of course, you're gonna have those kids that come on here and start spouting mythical bullshit.

and we're sick to death of them

Unfortunately most of the people who are bigmouthing what SF communities do are full of rubbish - it is usually abject nonsense and based on reading books or trawling the internet - hardly credible sources of truth.  Some of them have the cheek to act like experts just because they get some buzzwords in.  usually they get things out of context or misunderstand roles and tasking and look like first class muppets without realizing it.

Look around, there are some very well reasoned points on this thread, you just have to look past all the bullshit.

go back on the well reasoned points and they are 99% coming from people  who have been in or work with these communities.  There are a few that have proclaimed expertise and association, but their dialogue falls apart as soon as the questions and answers become serious.  ie wankers and walters

Now on the flipside, there are a couple guys on here who have made some great rebuttals on my behalf, so good in-fact, that it converted me on the spot, and made me rethink what I was saying.

and thats a healthy sign, it would have been a whole lot better to walk softly into the room, observe, watch and then provide input.

Isn't that what all this is about?

For me its about respecting people and their craft - it diminishes and  trivialises the very good and serious work that these people do when people come in here and dumb it down through some nationalistic d1ck waving contest.

I joined this website knowing next to nothing, thinking I knew it all.

the good thing - and I don't say this with the intention of appearing paternal - is that at least you've paused and learned.  unfort some of the others in here have not.  Quite frankly its embarassing but they've been too dense to work it out.  They're too focussed on defending their pet rock rather than listening more.  ie listen more, speak less.

I'm just glad that I can come on here after a long jog and actuallly learn something, give my opinion, then learn a little more.

I make no claim to expertise, but where I can provided considered input based on what I know and do rather than what I read (and without supporting qualification) - then I'll contribute. My intention is not to be a hard arse because you love the SEALs.  The issue is about according all the specwarries and their communities some respect and not dumbing it down to a level which is completely disrespectful - and that includes the very force elements that you are defending.  Its damnation by association.  There are some very very good smaller units from other countries where they do not engage in this kind of "advertising" - and quite a few of them have surprised the more well known Tier 1 SF teams in their level of capability and professionalism. SEALs SAS, Delta and MFR have all had their heads handed to them by less well known teams when training.  Every one of the Tier 1's has made mission mistakes at some point in time. (its how we learn)  They are human, they aren'

You absolutely do not know what you are taking about ,SEALS are trained in over 200 different types of missions and that doesn't include and that mission capability of SEAL TEAM SIX  and for your info its the SAS who wrote the book they are the archetype, now if you what to post info readly available on the Internet we can do that

I dot see why people are comparing Royal Marines to Seals its foolish. However in no way are delta force even close to SAS, they have an exchange program because the founder of Delta trained with the SAS ad decided that the states needed something similar, so there is a relationship there. Between the SAS and the SEALS though i would choose SAS because of tis fact, Task force 88 is basically a crack force to hunt terrorists and sometimes stop kidknappings etc. This is made up of this structure...

TF BLACK: made up of SAS sabre squadron, including some SBS operators (supported by a company of SFSG, known as  TF MAROON)
TF BLUE: made up of US NAVY SEALS from DEVGRU (seal team 6)
TF GREEN: 1st SFOD, or Delta Force.
TF BLACK was identified as top of the SF when it was given the name task force black, all other SF coming in below them. Although people are saying SEALS dont get the same training youve obv not thght of seal team 6... who get anti terrorism training in all theatres. Heres my very educated view, some might be close but id say this is pretty bang on..

1. SBS or SAS
2. Navy Seals
3. Royal Marine Commandos or Pathfinders
4. Delta Force
5. Green Berets
6. British Paras, although id say they were equal to the Green Berets
