Hello JTTR. Just a short response to your comments below:

In terms of failure rates for new interns i think i am correct in stating that the SAS/SBS intake failure rate is higher than in any other special force unit, roughly along the line of 97-98% out of an average of 200 candidates however this can vary to either end of the scale. i also think that the only unit then comes close to challenging this failure rate of the Royal Marine Commando sniper school in which only 5-10 candidates will pass each year, however do not quote me  on this, I?m not entirely sure but i vaguely remember reading it a while back.  "Have the most rigorous entrance training program because it is all water oriented" this quote in particular i disagree with.

Could it be that the 97-98% failure rate is as such (and i don't believe its that high. More than likely 15%) is such because the cnadidates are not as good.  That is to say, say shold not have been accepted to the SAS qualification course. Furthermore, i believe there is sufficient and credible unclassified information on SAS and Navy SEALs training program to help deduce which may be arguably more rigourous. I have a military background which is land based. And although it troubles me to say this because i'm former military, and more suited for training regimens that are land based. The Navy Seals are all around in their training, but what sets them apart is their aquatic training. The SAS and Delta Force are not on the same level as far as training regimen. You have to be a special breed to withstand training that is "water oriented". These guys can do miles on end (when compared to the SAS or Delta Force) in the ocean. Thier BUDS training program is harsh because of this nature.

Just an honest question:

Are the Seals are the US mix of what in UK is SAS and SBS?

Thanks in advance.

I think that can be a fair assesment.

Also, its a shame that the SBS isn't as much talked about as the SAS. I remember reading about their harrowing experience in hand-to-hand combat in the caves of Tora Bora.

Your question is a little confused but i think i get the gist. To some extent yes they are, but like i said only to some extent. They are more like the SBS. The SBS focus on water borne operations as do the SEALs but each is just as comfortable when operating in a land based environment but their real home territory is indeed the water. The SAS on the other hand is meant to dominate a land based battle space, but as and when needed, can comfortably transgress to water based operations as an

Why would you compare the SEALs to the SAS

SAS was formed in the 40?s middle of the Second World War with a brake of to the SBS

The Navy SEALS came about in the 60?s following the training of the SAS and SBS,

Both organizations are the best in Class for Britain and the USA both work together on operations around the world and both train to the standards of each requirements for the needs of today?s governments, Hats off to both

I was not aware that compare SEAL, SAS and SBS was a sin.
I was willing to apology for that but soon I realized that here SP everybody is making comparison.
So there is no need for apology.
But what is the issue with my question.
Do you not like comparison?
Or in your opinion I cannnot make comparison about them?

A bit late but welcome to the discussion anyway. We have just done the picking apart of the "my nation?s special forces are better than yours" business, but still a valid point regardless.

Regretfully, this thread or any other similarities like "My nation is better than your nation" threads are never done being picked to death. Momentarily sated perhaps, but never ever done.

For me, it is enough just to state sincerely my respect and concerned well being for my country's military/SpecOps, but also for our allied nations special forces and especially for anglophone countries.

ArealSEAL    all you people are wrong because yall are not part of these warrior brotherhoods   6/6/2011 3:55:07 PM
SEALS training is THREE YEARS long and after that you are only considered an apprentice seal and not even on a team it takes more in team training and then multiple deployments to be on a permanent SEAL team and be considered a journeyman all you people fail to real is that if all those other spec ops were as great as you think you know that they would have been the ones killing Somali pirates whom have taken hostages and the ones who killed the hardest to find man in the world Osama binladin not to mention they have know where hes been since 2006 its real simple SEALS are the best And time after time its been proved and will be proved every day SAS and royal marines and whom ever else u want to compare are just the tip of the sword SEALS ARE THE RAZORS EDGE no questions asked any man With a SO contract will tell you the same..they arent only the toughest but are they are without a doubt the most mentally strong people in the universe and i know this because of the actions of 4 navy seals who took on 200 afghan taliban. If you  dont believe me look up operation red wing on youtube then one you know the story look up Marcus Luttrell on youtube its the first video you see it say Marcus Luttrell speaks and its posted by goldwaterinstitute its 20 min long and listen to him speak about how his men fought despite being shot multiple times and one even having the front of his head blown off and still fighting. This video will will prove we SEALS are the best toughest and most mentally capable people there are. SUCK IT
