Subject: US pilots: The Brits are good but they don't have the extreme aggression that we do.
reefdiver    4/30/2007 12:21:12 PM
Any comments about this quote yesterday from an article titled: "US Aircrews Show No Mercy To Taliban" from: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/29/wafg29.xml&page=1 But (American) Capt Staley said he had no qualms about pressing home such attacks until no one was left standing and claimed that American pilots were more effective than their British Apache counterparts, who he said flew higher and were less ruthless in finishing off their targets. "The Brits are good but they don't have the extreme aggression that we do."

A: It was USA which were hurt inn 911 and I guess that British think that they should keep their losses as low as possible if work is done. They have ten time less Apache than USA and losing one is not well accepted for them.
In Kosovo it was USA who flew high while Europeans accepted to take risk by flying low level .A British soldier fell probably uncomfortable to die for a foreign country
B: British ROE led them to identify more carefully their targets to avoid to do collateral damages and fuel terrorist ranks.
C: to finish their targets means kill all of them.At war, it is better to let your adversary wounded as he is a burden for its side and can testify of efficiency of your force.
I think that if it was a British war , you will see exactly the opposite.See British in Falklands. They were quite agressive then.

AdamB,

Since when has aggression been anything to do with landing your helicopter on someone by accident? I recommend that you go away and find a clue.

This instance was clearly the fault of the SAS in any case.  Just as when you are directing a HGV reversing, when you are guiding a helicopter into an LZ it is your responsibility (as the one directing), where it goes, not the pilots.
