Never mind.  Forgot about the QE class Battleships, obviously Gloriana already had at least one capital ship already named for her.

The Daily Mail is the worst - I'm not sure if stupidity and self-loathing a prerequisite to get a job there but they excel in both. lol

Good on you.  When I proposed the JFK and Kitty Hawk it was not to do you out of the business but to see that you have something good, not some crappy 45KT CdG puppy or another Illustrious, pardon my saying so.  I'm glad you'll have something at least half decent to take to sea.  Now, just as someone was saying, all you have to do is grow 'em a little.  Oh, only another 20, 30K tons or so.

BTW still bound to STOVL?  Or would there be at least a latent CATOBAR capability?  Ah, the article says yes.

Oh, and are you screwing the French or will they have a hand in the work?

Also, why two islands?  The forward one seems to get in the way.

Finally...these are dated for 2014 and 2016.  Perhaps the JFK or Kitty Hawk would be useful until then, as well as serving as test beds for the new technologies (e.g., electric drive) you intend to use.  (Please keep in mind I assume these as a gift, not trying to hold you up for anything, so all you would pay is refurb costs)

The French are out.
I think(not positive) that the fornt island is for ship control and the rear one will be for flight control.

No, I seem to see that in the drawings, but why separate them, ISTM you clutter the deck.  Make the rear island twice as big - twice as high, twice as long, expand it all round, whatever.  The French CdG has her island forward and I think it's not the optimal arrangement.

On one hand-woo-hoo! We really need those ships-on the other hand-Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales? Bah!! I wanted HMS Warspite and HMS Iron Duke, they sound much cooler and more warlike...damn political correctness...

Perhaps one of them might have been named HMS Surprise?  It was rather astonishing news.

I suppose it would have to be Queen Elizabeth II to refer to your present Monarch, so I take it the ship is named for Henry and Anne B's daughter of 1588 Armada fame etc.

RN naming convention is that the first class of capital ships of a monarch's reign are name after that monarch.  The last capital ships so named were the King George V class in the 1930s.  Interesting that the last battleship, Vanguard was not named King George VI and nothing built since then has been regarded as a capital ship.  But if HM were to die before the launch the lead ship would it be named King Charles III?
