Smokers should be forced to apply for an annual £200 licence in order to purchase cigarettes, a Government advisor has suggested.

Though I hate cigarrete, I hate government control even more. This is just too ridiculous.

I agree, while I did welcome the smoking ban, this is really going too far, are we that short of cash?

Yelli i agree with you 100%.

Now i live in the USA in PA. People piss and moan about smokers in PA,but before you go crying about them, know the real fact's:

   Pennsylvania Department of Revenue
Cigarette Tax

Cigarette Tax ? For Consumers

Cigarette Tax is an excise tax levied on the sale or possession of cigarettes in Pennsylvania. The current tax rate is $1.35 per pack of 20 cigarettes (0.0675 per stick) or $13.50 per carton of 10 packs. All cigarettes sold legally in Pennsylvania are marked with a Pennsylvania Cigarette Tax stamp, on the bottom of packs, to show that the appropriate tax has been paid.

In addition to the Cigarette Tax, consumers pay a 6 percent Sales and Use Tax on the retail purchase price of cigarettes, with an additional 1 percent local Sales Tax in Philadelphia and Allegheny Counties.

Now the above is only State Tax,now take sometime and look up the Fed Tax!.

Now smokers in PA are sure paying alot more in real taxes then an illegal alien or a junkie!. And actually, if they both smoke in PA, we get some legal tax out of both, instead of 0 if they dont!.

So, in the US drugs are illegal, but junkies have to pay tax on them?

No, a junkie who buy's illegal drugs pay's no tax,but they do put money into the hands of drug cartels.
So the only way to get legal taxes for the citizens of PA from an illegal or junkie is if they buy a pack of cigarettes.

And as for all those who wish to take away those smokers in PA?  Well now i wonder who will have to pay all that lost revenue to the state of PA?  Answer: The Non-Smokers!

You can only lean back and admire in awe the way the British are fighting drugs crime by making it more finacially lucrative to smuggle and trade cigarettes illegally.
