sublimebohemian    The real winner of the wars   7/10/2015 4:05:32 PM
I know this is probably a cliche. The real winner of all this hasn't been the United States and it's allies or AQ. Possibly, ISIL but really Suuni extremism has driven Iran, Syria and the U.S. together. Ultimately, I think Iran will emerge the victor. Gaining influence, likely nukes and ultimately perhaps territory. This failure lies upon our last pair of Presidents. Bush for occupying an area and attempting to naively introduce a political system that would require a couple generations to be reeducate. He also attempted this with insufficient forces, Shinzeki was right. Obama has failed by politically grandstanding and forgetting the practical realities of his position. It also appears his shame for our country eclipsed his love. It has produced a recriminating incisive anemic negotiator at best. Containing the Iranians will be something our children may have to do.

It would be correct to state that the Houthi said they were withdrawing troops to secure Sanaa, but I'm not sure that's really the reason.  There were indications that Aden would fall to the Hadi loyalists even before the troops were withdrawn.  Moreover, the troops that were withdrawn were mostly Republican Guards, who are Saleh loyalists and not necessarily Houthi loyalists.  I think it at least as likely that Saleh saw the handwriting on the wall for Aden and didn't want to lose his best troops.
