Has the decision to order F-35 been been confirmed? And part of a definitive mix along with Typhoons? That might be news to some.
In my view, another balanced 'mix' could consist of combat capable Pilatus PC-21 (w/ integrated Brimstone II?), which could be effective in coastal maritime patrol and security (?)... along with multi-role Rafale to replace the current M2000 fleet. Maybe Rafale C variants to allow for more durable operational flexibility?
But it would definitely seem sensible that Qatar trains up a new generation of citizen pilots which would only increase sovereignty and credibility. Nothing like a good incentive package and national campaign to motivate and create a more self-reliant air force in the future.
