Just because they often vote similarily on the UN Security Council does not make them allies.

1.  Perhaps the makers of the video game Grand Theft Auto could make a video game called Grand Theft China.
2.  "Despite the ongoing technology theft dispute Russia still sells jet engines to China for its illegal copies of Russian aircraft."  Is there a reason for this docile behavior?  There must be a back story here.

Russia needs the money and the manufacturer needs a larger volume to realize cost saving measures being demanded by the Russian government.
 
And Russia is worried that if Russia doesn’t sell them the engines that they will get someone else to supply them, probably resulting in a permanent shift in the design and complete loss in future sales. The French in particular seem to have a hard time learning the lesson about Chinese technology theft.
