Could it be that Karzai supported Russian action in Ukraine because Afghanistan might decide to claim north western parts of Pakistan with its Pashtun population ?

Karsi isn't that crazy.  If Afghanistan tried the Pakistani Army would eat them for lunch.  Besides, the Pashtun are internally fractured into many clans and family groups that fight each other more often than ousiders.  Karsi would not be greeted as a savior, or even welcomed as a relative.

Besides, Karsi will be out of office in a couple months, so any actions will have to be taken by his successor.  But Karsi's hand pick successor only got 10% of the vote, so he won't even be in the run-off election.
