http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080042547&ch=2/28/2008%2010:41:00%20PM China illegally claims approximately 90,000 square kilometres of Indian territory including Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Wednesday. ''Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and the government has conveyed this fact to the Chinese side,'' Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. In reply to another query, he said China disputes the international boundary with India.

Possible courses of action:

1.  Support Tibetan independence movement and put like-minded Tibetans under the (unofficial) Indian payroll.

2.  Recognize Taiwan, or something along that line to piss off Beijing.

3.  Become the dominant naval power within the Indian Ocean after the US Navy.  Better yet, establish closer ties with the US, Japan, and Australia.  Having a piece of someone else's real estate means next to nothing if the ChiComs find their navy bottlenecked.

Unless Beijing resorts to nukes and non-nuke long-range missiles, there is not a whole lot the ChiComs can do.  Not to mention that heavy conventional forces are useless over the Himalayas.

Nepal is also an important piece in this puzzle as they have suffered quite a few PLA intrusions and in fact China is building a road and a railroad directly into Kathmandu...makes for a speedier conquest.  If India/US could convince Nepal to allow the stationing of troops there (or an airbase) that would really make badirty China think twice.
