Subject: China faked 'ethnic minority' children at Olympic ceremony:
gf0012-aust    8/15/2008 2:57:24 AM
ah, another example of state sponsored eugenics at work... :) ------------------- China faked 'ethnic minority' children at Olympic ceremony: report Posted 2 hours 11 minutes ago Children from China's dominant Han population were used in a key part of the Olympics opening ceremony, not youngsters from all 56 ethnic groups as claimed, an official said in comment published on Friday. If true, it would be the third high-profile faking incident of the ceremony after it was revealed a girl was substituted as a singer because she was deemed too 'ugly', and supposedly live fireworks on the TV broadcast were pre-recorded. The 56 children who carried out the Chinese flag in a moment meant to showcase national harmony were all from the Han majority, an official with the dance troupe that they belonged to told the Asian Wall Street Journal. "I assume they think the kids were very natural looking and nice," the paper quoted Yuan Zhifeng, deputy director of Galaxy Children's Art Troupe, as saying. The troupe is made up exclusively of children from the Han ethnic group, which accounts for more than 90 per cent of China's more than 1.3 billion people, according to the paper. Official Chinese television shows and other performances often feature the Han Chinese representing minority groups. However Olympic organisers said directly that the children were from all 56 official ethnic groups. "Fifty-six children from 56 Chinese ethnic groups cluster around the Chinese national flag, representing the 56 ethnic groups," read the media guide for the opening ceremony distributed on the night. The apparent fakery comes at a sensitive time for China over its ethnic groups, as Buddhist Tibetans and Muslim Uighurs have sought to use the Olympic spotlight to publicise what some say has been repression under the Chinese rule. A person who answered the phone at the troupe on Friday would not answer the questions. A spokesman for Beijing Olympic organisers was not immediately available to comment. -AFP

I called them out on this immediately when I saw this live. I remember Nanheyarchuan mentioning awhile back how in Shanghai they would do parades were they had tall fair skinned Han Chinese pretend to be ethnic minorities.

Not a parade, the nationwide Spring Festival TV gala (think a day of Jerry Lewis telethon performances minus the charity and a whole lot cheesier with some spooky nationalist stuff thrown in...and tall, light skinned Han portraying often shorter, darker skinned minorities in the name of diversity).

Is there anything that china does anymore that does not involve some measure of fakery?

A sad, shameful road for a nation which once boasted of such great indigenous accomplishments (achievements they didn't copy from someone else first).

From putting chemicals in pet food to mimic proper nutritional requirements,
to substituting lead paint and other harmful chemicals in place of the original less toxic materials in kids' toys,
to who-knows-how-many instances of IP infringement,
and now to all this Olympic shame (to include some little pig-tailed, lip-sinking, smiley-faced girl who'll go down in history as being a fake, and another sad little girl who sang her heart out for her country but was flat out told, "it doesn't matter you can sing when you're so unattractive")....
...what does china do anymore that's actually 100% legit?

Notice how there's been no mention of testing some of those rather bulky chinese athletes for steroid abuse and other unapproved chemical substances?
Of course, considering china hasn't barked out and suggested Phelps' phenomenal swimming abilities was from some pre-Olympic doping, maybe that's them biting their own tongues because they're fearful of a public backlash if word got out they pumped up some of their own athletes...?
(Then again, they can just have their people doctor up the documentation to say otherwise, as they questionably did over these young gymnasts' ages.)

Yup, I call out the IOC on this one, too.
They wouldn't have hesitated to condemn any US athletes on US soil, yet they fearfully cowardly refrain from calling out the chinese...

(chinese teacher: "OK children, what lesson did we learn in class today?
It is acceptable to lie to make yourself look impressive to the rest of the world.")

...or is that a lesson every nation teaches its children at some point (even if unintentionally) ?

Back in the day in the US, they called it "blackface" when white actors tried portraying minorities (or like when some of those old westerns had the white guys wearing pigments all over their upper torsoes to look like Native Americans or even Japanese for those WW2-era propaganda films to encourage nationalist pride and further demonize (de-humanize?) the enemies of the day ).
Do that today in the US, and you'll land in court.

And what has your inane comment got to do with a country thats faking it's demographic lineup to compensate for a national inferiority complex.?  what has "super citizens" got to do with cultural kleptocracy?  where are there non indigenous australians pretending to be aborigines? (any photo shoot will do)

btw you moron, I'm part chinese.  I speak cantonese, so what has linguistic ability got to do with logic?

and before posting a response, at least try and demonstrate some form of coherency and sentence structure rather than trolling about with cretinous comments.

Let's see China is rumoured to have political enemies executed, after which the corpses are prepared by a German "artist", who then sends the plastified corpses around the world in an art exposition called "bodies" and yet somehow we manage to be more bothered about whether all the children at a meaningless ceremony are of correct ethnic decent?
