Subject: US to sell one Osprey MHC to Taiwan, commies strangely don't feel that angry
YelliChink    9/30/2010 12:20:48 PM
US Congress (both Senate and house) agreed to sell an Osprey minehunter to ROCN, however, strangely, commies aren't as angry as they used to be. The US congress also passed a new law authorized POTUS to unilaterally impose tariff on Chinese imports. If this doesn't look strange enough, then PLA and US military just resumed regular contacts. Something is cooking, I can smell it, but I don't know what it is.

Just one?

How much use is one of anything?  If you are looking for actual operations that run somewhat continuously isn't the minimum 3 or 4?

That is really odd.

Turkey and India are also buying few of those. As I can recall, two have already been approved to Taiwan, but I could be wrong. ROCN's plan is to operate a fleet of at least 6 mine warfare vessels. They do have a plan to build few more locally to replace WW2 or other Cold War Museum pieces. My bet is the they will simply contract to build Osprey copies.

Taiwan is probably under license to build its own versions, maybe with the Japanese.

The Chinese expect weakness but don't respect it.  Stand up to them and they quite down ala Chosin Reservior.  The militaries are meeting because the PLA realizes the US Congress means business and that means the US military means business so the time for false bravado is over.

Also, the next Kim is officially a 4 star general and at the center of Party Congress pics, while Uncle Jong Il is off to his side and China's periphery is embracing the US military.
