takky97    12/7/2003 12:03:10 AM
Korea and Japan have related each other in many areas for a long time. In these days, they face N.Korea situation.
Each governments in public say they will cooperate against N.Korean issue. However, I think their situations and desperateness are diffenent. I am wondering how they cooperate?

There is a problem with Japanese-S. Korean joint action on military matters. The S. Koreans mistrust and hate the Japanese due to their brutal occupation of the country only about 60 years ago (not long, historically). More realistic right now is the way boht countries can cooperate with hte US in meeting N.Korean threats. Most hopeful is the idea that Japan will cooperate with the US in creating an anti-missle technology. I read about this after the N. Koreans dropped a missle into the sea of Japan recently, but nothing lately. I believe the Japanese can outdo us on this technology, and I'd love to see them help us here. The alliance would be of far more than symbolic value to the US.
