The Chinese have a clear long-term strategy (unlike the USA - for whom both Congress and US industry are vastly more interested in short-term gains than long term outlook), and are using (like the US used to) leveraging their economic clout to get what they want.

Pat Buchanan warned about this happening as the US sacrificed its manufacturing base (and hard-won technical know how) in favor of short term profiteering - at the expense of US jobs, the manufacturing base, and its long-term economic health.

The USA needs to be thinking/planning for the long term health of this nation, which with the current political climate they are unwilling (too cowardly) to do.    As George Washington said (I'm paraphrasing): "the true enemies of the United States are those who put their parties politics over the good of the nation..."

Where was I Tuesday, Feb 20th 1986, the day Ferdinand Marcos decided to leave the Philippines? In the S.China Sea on the USS Indianapolis, coming from Pattaya ( Thailand), heading in to Subic Bay on the surface extra days early so the world ( Russia) could see us still going in to the P.I.  The gate was closed when we got there but it soon opened about 6 PM and the partying began.
