All copies of American weapons which they stole when America was too relaxed and liked it's cheap goods. Now America cries over the split milk. The moral of this news item is that a previous enemy of Korean War, can never become a friend, just business interests.

"barrels (one more than the 1030) and two magazines carrying over 1280 rounds of ammo. That is enough to engage over 40 targets before needing a reload. Top rate of fire is 10,000 rounds a minute (166 per second)"

So..  per my simple calculation.. that's using 64 rounds per engagement - with an engagement time of  just about 1/3 of one second.   Is that at all realistic???

Up to 10,000 rounds a minute.
Most of the time i'd guess the rate of fire is much lower, 3,000 is what Phallanx drops to.
10,000 is probably activated on last ditch highest priority target if its got any kind of threat assessment software. Likely as not.

That makes more sense - but the number of rounds per engagement doesn't change in that calculation.

And at 3000 rds per minute, it still seems to be just over a 1 second engagement.  Are these types of systems really that accurate?

I wonder. That indicates (to me) a HOSE solution instead of a point shoot point solution. There must be something wrong with Chinese fire control that they need so many slugs in the mags. Also I don't care how many barrels you put on the thing, I wonder about the heat deformation and feed jams. VULCAN/Phalanx took a decade to iron those problems out.

And at THAT, the USN went to the Rolling Airframe Missile. (German adaptation of SIDEWINDER for ship's defense.)

You wouldn't happen to know what the p/k of a RAM is would you?  I guess I could look it up, but I like to get some decent feedback as well as the actual figure.

Thanks.

If I did know it, I couldn't tell you the actual PK. And don't believe the internet. What they give you is the early test results.

But for what it's worth, the missiles generally are fired in singlets. That should tell you something.

I've seen several attempts at using Phalanx for anti personal, and those things were horrendously inaccurate. Couldn't hit the side of the barn with a banjo. Im not sure what they'd be like against missiles, as I'm fairly sure the anti personal (Small craft) is an afterthought software add on therefore not ideal.
What sounds like an incredible volume of rounds down range, at even 1 km, is a very, very large spread. If i was actually reliant on this thing for air defence, i'd want as much ammo as possible.
The range is completely implausible. 7Km range? Sure, the bullet can go that far, theres just no way a gun shooting a 30mm unguided round can hit anything at anywhere near that range. Not even at half that range going on experience.

Just as a side bar.. I've seen the old M113 mounted vulcan systems.. from what I've read, they weren't a very good air defense system.. but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of them in an anti-personal role..   Maybe they aren't all that accurate, but I'd guess the "pucker factor" would be pretty on the intended recipient.
