Subject: New Operation in Panjwaii District
Griffin    12/16/2006 11:42:47 PM
Canadian troops are playing an important role in the latest NATO operation in Panjwaii District to interdict, find, detain or kill both Taliban leader cadre and their IED making subordinates. The op is now led by the Dutch, and it is hoped that the Afghan Army will be able to fight more effectively. Cdn. troops have been trying to traing the Afghans in critical items such as logistical support, running op's, etc.

Readers may recall this district was the scene of some of the fiercest firefights this past summer and fall in Afghanistan, where it is estimated the Cdn. troops along with supporting arms from the ANA, US, and Britain helped to kill over 600 Taliban fighters.

Messed up on the links in the first post, but it seems we have pushed the Taliban into a pocket with the US and Brits adding forces to envelopment the enemy.  From part of the news article:

"HOWZ-E MADAD, Afghanistan -- There is no place to hide, and nowhere to run for hundreds of Taliban insurgents now squeezed into a box near here by NATO forces.
They only have two options: Surrender, or attempt to fight their way out."
