C'mon Herald, just for once let loose and tell us how you really feel. I did not see one of the nominated movies this year so I did not watch the Oscars. Besides my daughter is a film critic by trade and say's that I watch tripe and would not know a good film if I watched one.

good is pretty subjective when it comes to movies and entertainment.  i know the choice i'd make between the next terminator movie and a merchant and ivory production despite despite the critic's opinions.

You know enough to understand story continuity,  character development,  framed filmed shots that look like still life pictures [closed or bordered shots] or landscapes [open framed or borderless shots. You know what close ups are, two shots [two people in the shot] overheads  or crane  shots [looking down on your subject] foreground and background dominated shot composition etc, are. EVERY movie goer who sees at least two hundred films knows this stuff when he sees it. He just doesn't know the words or exactly how to technically describe it, but he/you can tell me EXACTLY why a movie like  Mars Attacks or the last Spiderman movie was GARBAGE.

Tripe is a matter of personal taste.

I like Jerry Lewis and the Three Stooges, Chris Rock, and Eddie Murphy. I despise Andy Griffith in any of his forms, likewise George Clooney or any of the current female leads except, Zhang Ziyi, who is RAW talent unleashed.

I don't have much use for any of the current crop of cretin directors except Peter Jackson and Ang Lee.

Its a matter of personal taste.
