Subject: Canada media vs. US media
gcw1995    6/1/2005 8:22:18 AM
I know how biased Americas media can be. Why does Canadas media seems to always smear the US? I believe Canadians in general don't feel the same as they're media as the same for us Americans.

So, when we say 'all americans blah blah rude blah ignorant blah etc' it is literally true for us, since we really just don't notice the ones that aren't. If you run into any Americans from here in the South, you'll notice. The accent's a dead giveaway. Just like we can recognize your accents down here very easily! ;)

think that's rather unjustified pseudo. claiming that we are "cultured" is something we don't do and i'd be interested to know how you came to the idea we do. our claim to the moral high ground has to do with our record on the world scene which if you read our history you would understand. you should be awfully careful throwing words like hypocrit around lest they come back to bite you on the butt.

lot of truth to that bunglefoot. i've met some rather nice folks and some total jerks. what's actually the most jarring though is that some of our bedrock assumptions about the world at large are so entirely different. as an example i met a trucker from texas who couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that you could drop texas into ontario and loose it. in his mind there was nothing in the world bigger than texas that wasn't an entire country and there were only a few of those. it just boggled him totally and when i told him the biggest working cattle ranch (at the time) was in british columbia he just went into shock i think.

funny thing about accents. read an article one time by a linguistics prof and he said that canadian english is the closest to accent free of all english spoken on the planet. which may explain why so many of the guys reading the news in the states are canucks ;)

I'm sorry ehran, was I speaking directly to you? Pseudo is right far as I'm am concerned ehran. Since I am writing to you, Canada would'nt be around if it were not the US government. The same US government that you dislike so much. Please stop living in a world of windchimes and sweet humminbirds. There is a war out there and the terrorists could care less if you are from Cananda or the US. Please, ehran, take off those rose colored glasses and take a look at the bigger picture that taking place in the world. Thanks.

Canada would'nt be around if it were not the US government. Really? I missed that part in my American History class. IIRC, Canada almost disappeared because of the US. Fortunately, from their standpoint, US attempts to invade and annex Canada failed. The same US government that you dislike so much. When did he say he didn't like our government? And what does it matter, anyways? He's got as much right to his opinion as anyone else.

Gcw1995, perhaps you should explain what you meant in those statements of yours I quoted. I'm willing to listen to reason.

(Ehran) "actually we pretty much kicked your butts all the way through the war. the war of 1812 had a whole lot more to do with "hmm we can probably grab up canada while the brits are busy fighting napoleon". and just how long after nappy got put down did it take to hustle to the negotiation table at ghent? the thought of the british sending wellington to visit must have had people wetting themselves in washington hehe." So you did not just take credit of an ENGLISH accomplishment here, ok you aren't a hypocrite. you wanna take credit for the war of 1812 your country then takes responsiblity for English history, so how many Zulu did YOUR people kill?
