Subject: Canada media vs. US media
gcw1995    6/1/2005 8:22:18 AM
I know how biased Americas media can be. Why does Canadas media seems to always smear the US? I believe Canadians in general don't feel the same as they're media as the same for us Americans.

(Ehran) "think as much as anything it's a reflection of the distaste for the rah rah nationalism of our neighbours to the south. rah rah just doesn't play here other than in hockey season." Seems to me you were speaking canada up quite a bit.... Hypocrite... See i use applicable insults...

gee aside from a truly unjustifiable tarriff on lumber, attacks on the wheat board , the potash industry which is particularly funny because the entire american potash industry was bought out and closed down by canadians without ending the tarriff on potash to protect the non-existant american industry and various and other trade irritants what could i possibly be annoyed about. his beef was with europe not canada we just got to be collateral damage. what i produce is tarrif free and always has been even before nafta etc.

pride in accomplishment does not equal rah rah bs. an example being last night on jeopardy the final question was about who invented "mass production" techniques. now it's an article of faith with americans that henry ford did. yet in truth henry wasn't even the first american to use these techniques much less their inventor. yet these things become part of the mythology and are simply never questioned.

yet these things become part of the mythology and are simply never questioned. I think there is a measure of truth in that. I myself have been surprised over the years at the things that I thought were true, but turned out not to be.

Driving hom elast night I heard a story on the radio about sugar beet subsidie sin Colorado! How timely. I honestly thought all of our sugar production in the US was in the South and came from cane. Never knew we imported sugar beets into the west (similiar climate to Europe).

it's funny the things we take for gospel. i was for a long time certain that it was canadian troops for instance who took monte cassino back in the day. picked up a book on the liri valley campaign and discovered it was the poles who actually took the place. facts can be sooo hard on your pride sometimes.

Just another quirk of human nature. We tend to be less critical of statements that support our own---often pre-conceived---views. When I was just a youngster, I used to believe we won the Revolutionary War single-handedly against Britain. Our history books tended to gloss over the French contribution, as well as the contributions of others. OTOH, in today's PC climate, the history books our youngsters read today probably go to the opposite extreme.

isn't that the truth. always get a kick out of guys posting here who slag the MSM as being hopelessly left wing etc but any crank with a website who can blog is accepted as gospel if he's right wing enough. sometimes i wonder if humans will ever really make that final leap into being truly rational animals.
