Subject: Europe and the FARC
Phoenix Rising    3/9/2002 4:44:11 PM
Does anyone know anything about the direction in which European sympathies toward the rebels have turned since 9/11? They've always been somewhat tolerant of the FARC, but most of the European news sources I read haven't had much comprehensive coverage (or editorials) on the issue lately. Is this a conscious decision to avoid criticism in American media and government, or has the FARC actually receded in the eyes of Europe? Or am I completely wrong and simply looking at the wrong sources?

I'm also surprised this board is so low-traffic; I know Al Qaeda has made itself much more conspicuous lately, but the situation in Colombia does have pronounced, if indirect, effects on America.
