Subject: Panther Shout - Are You Still Here?
bigfella    3/14/2008 4:55:43 AM
Panther,

Haven't seen you around much. I promised you a post on Vietnam literature which I have been slow in providing. I haven't done a comprehensive one yet, but I have a few tips on reading.

Also have a great place to buy cheap books. HUGE range & free delivery in the US. Large range of books under $10 and even $5. For $100 you could build a pretty damned good Vietnam library. For $200 you could have a GREAT one.

Also keen to hear how you are. I know what a tough job you have. Don't want you to think you've been forgotten.

Yup, i'm still coming around, but more in the background for the time being.

I'm doing as well as i possibly can hecticly manage, since we moved from our previous area a little over a week ago. Yesterday was my first day with telephone service, hence my very late reply to your post. Small towns work at a much slower pace then the cities and their surrounding areas do! My apologies.

I wasn't worried about you forgetting about our Vietnam discussion some while back, i knew it would take some time, like you had said, too acquire the information. IIRC, it was also just a little while after our discussion that you had your wreck? So, i didn't see the need too push you on the subject, seeing that you had other pressing problems to deal with first!

As always... i look forward too anything you have found, or may want too say!

Glad to hear you are well.

Hope the move was as stress free as possible. Can't stand moving myself. Last time I did it (14 years ago) I left my stereo gear on the front lawn of the old house overnight & left the power cord for my TV hanging out of the back door of the car. The cord wrapped itself around the rear axel of the car & sheared off - no TV or stereo for me for a few weeks.

My little accident did slow me down for a while. Somehow I managed to get hit by a van & thrown 3 metres and only sustain 3 cracked ribs. If I were a religious man I'd consider that my higher power was in an exceptionally generous mood that day. As a heathen I'm opting for dumb luck. Since I've recovered my PhD has chewed up what little time isn't spent earning money.

Since we last spoke my rather fertile family has gifted me a nephew & a quasi-niece (daughter of a cousin, but I treat them all like nieces) with one more on the way. Lots of 'uncling' to do.

On the topic at hand, I have been doing a bit of reading & will post something for you within the week. In the meantime I have a link to make you salivate:

This place has a mixture of new, remaindered & ex library books. As a result I am now the proud owner of a number of books formerly owned by the municipal library of Germantown Ohio .  As I mentioned, plenty of books on Vietnam, lots below US$5 & $10 and free delivery.

I'll pop back with a new post & a few recommendations soon.

Stay well.

Oh, before I forget.

There are over 500 titles listed on 'Vietnam War', close to 1000 on 'Vietnam History'. Unfortunately the way the books are listed is haphazard. You may encounter a $20 copy of a book on page 2, and a &5 copy on page 56. My tip is to put anything interesting on your wish list & go over the list in a couple of sittings. The wish list stays, so you can come back to it later. You could literally save hundreds doing this. I speak (as usual) as one who learned this particular lesson the hard way.

If you're gonna imply that lucky stars exist, then you're going to have to scientifically prove to everybody that you love your nieces...

Sadly, the move wasn't stress free at all, with my blood pressure being much more higher today then any other day of the previous week. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it is probably through the roof, breaking all previous high-blood pressure records!

Oh well, enough of that.

I'm certainly glad that your accident didn't permanently slow you down! Now i pray that you can catch up too where you were before the accident?

On to families and new additions, which means... Congratulations are in order for being an uncle many times over! May you and your family members have only wonderful years ahead of them, from here on...! Strangely though, i have three sisters that used to always reminded me of a bunch of breeding rabbits. The last one being born about 95, even though one still isn't sure if they will have anymore.

However, now it's quite a few of their children who are of the age too bare their own chidren as well! Which means i've become a great uncle a couple of times over! Time really flies, doesn't it? Like you, i don't regret any of their births and love them as if they were my own!

Anyways... Thank you for the link! I will definitely check it out and let you know whatever tickles my interests!

Take care of yourself.
