What would you choose for the entertainment line-up for either Obama's or McCain's inaugural ball?

for Obama?

Some of the invited guests:

for the mandatory choir to sing the Obamessiah's praises,  the entire MSM, replete with studio lights from behind highlighting the halo.
for hubris - the reverend Wright
for reminding Obama of Humility in the face of his Triumph - the good father Pfleger: sic transit gloria Obama. He can do double duty at standup comedy and mimicking as well, with a bit of crocodile tear imitations thrown in for good measure. The Kos Kids will eat it up.
for Iago-like advice, Hillary, of course
for sheer malice - Alec Baldwin, with a one-way ticket elsewhere
for catering the Koolaide - Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Tim Robbins, and Hollywood twits.
for reminding Obama of his ties to Louis Farakhan, William Ayres and other fine fellows - Michele Obama
for reminding Jews of his wonderful ties and support of Israel - all of his PALI praisers and fundraisers, his
anti-Israel foreign policy advisor by the name of Rice, and his anti-Israel staffers, including the one who met with Hamas.
for bringing a needed sexual tension to the event -  Chris "he brings a chill up my leg" Matthews
for Bush-bashing maliciousness  and truthers-  a joint appearance by Joy Behar and Rosie O'Donnell
for bringing out those that turned against Bush -  Scott McClellan, now touted as as expert on the White House inner workings
for ways to vote on emotion rather than on looking at experience and accomplishments - about 75% of those who voted for Obama
for a toast to celebrate his victory - White Liberal Guilt because they dont want to be called "racists"
for partycrashers - the 17,000,000 women, blue-collar workers, older voters, etc, who know a scam when they see one (though they DID vote for Hillary as well)
for the Keynote Speech - Joe Biden (courtesy of Neil McKinnock)
for the Master of Ceremonies -  Reverend Wright (in a duo role)

swhitebull - it should be a rip-roaring event at this rate.  Anyone else care to add to the list? I'm sure I omitted many others.

The best thing that could happen to the conservative deserted Republican Party is what we saw in the last 24 hours.

BHO is furious at Clinton for not conceding. Instead she got up and said he had to make her VP knowing full well that he never would. A declaration of intent that she was the -President maker- and he better remember it.

Obama would rather have the Reverend Wright as his running mate.

As McCain continues to leave conservative voters tepid, he will appeal to disaffected Clinton supporters, as he did last night.

We conservatives will put our feet up and watch this cluster-flock with amusement as we contemplate voting for McCain or staying home.

The price of a third party might be 3 new liberal Supreme Court Judges and a Pelosi/Reed.BHO administration.

Then a clean house election.

For Barack Obama's inaugural ball he should set it up like a disco night club or rave. There should be scantily clad women dancing to guest DJs FatBoy Slim's rendition of the "the Joker" as heard in Tokyo nightclub ecxtasy scene in movie "Babel".

Even though McCain has no chance at all of winning , if he does he should go for the trance /techno genre as well.

As the night wears on it would decend into a decadent debauchery reminiscent of a Full Moon Party with tons of American and foriegn porn stars. Let freedom ring!

Not going to happen.  The mathematics of the Winner Take All electoral college system practically demands that third parties fail.  There is a conservative wet dream in which the Democrats win, do horrible things, and then the United States citizenry collectively wakes up, says, oh my, what was I thinking, and runs to the far right.  That won't happen either.
If far left idealogy wins the election, then the next election will feature the remnants of the Republican party moving left as well, in an attempt to re-capture the middle, which is numerically far more important than either fringe.  This will happen ESPECIALLY if a conservative third party arises- with them peeling off the right end of the bell curve, the only good pickings will be left towards the other end.  Also, with the conservative voices muted during the GOP primary as they go pick their own candidate, the GOP will become more liberal by default.

In a parliamentary system, a strong third party can become the kingmaker, if one of the leading parties needs it to create a majority coalition.  In the US, it merely makes some voter irrelevant, diluting support for its side of the political spectrum.

Just as Nader's Nuts are nothing more than a destructive nuisance for the Dems, any conservative third party will have no effect other than to create liberal victories.

Of course, there is the liberal wet dream:  they win big, control the white house, and both branches of Congress, get some liberal judges, and finally fix things by passing laws defining conservative positions as illegal hate speech.  Radio stations and Internet sites with "wrong" ideas are shut down, Fox is warned to toe the line or risk losing licenses, and conservativism dies a slow death as its ideas can no longer be publicly discussed.  Considering that liberal politicians have already expressed thoughts along these lines, which wet dream is closer to reality should Barak win in November?

Even though McCain has no chance at all of winning ...

If he wins, of course, you will have to square the reality of his win with your certainty that this reality is impossible, and finally understand that your entire philosophy of the universe is fatally undermined by fundamental misconceptions, yes?

Your post is just too juicy to resist....   "no chance...if he does..."?

Incoherent contradiction all wrapped in one sentence.

I know it is kind of a contradiction since trance and techno are not the same, but what other combo are you hoping will work? I suppose techno mixed in with some urban hip hop may do the trick at letting everyone know he is in touch with people under 40 years old.

I can visualize an under 40 TV audience bewildered by Iranian diplomats deer-in-the-headlights reaction to BHO's administration utilizing "Techno/Trance" diplomacy.

Well, I have to disagree.

As unlikely as it seems, for the reasons you state, it has happened before, because of similar circumstances.

The Electoral College does not favor multiple party, ?Parliamentary? type political scenarios or environments. The Electoral College discourages multiple minority parties for more than one purpose. Not only does this prevent fractured government by diverse and antagonistic coalitions, it filters out trivial disputes until a truly significant fundamental disagreement suggests, or causes, realignment of political affiliation.

It is, and has been, the ?wet dream? of every political party to fantasize their resurrection from self inflicted political ruin to political supremacy  based on the opposition party?s future intolerable and horrible policies. It never works, the party eventually has to reinvent itself with new ideas and new leaders. Then the cycle starts again.

The cycle goes on and on until one of two things happens: a cataclysmic event or a irreconcilable difference in beliefs.

A cataclysmic event unifies, if only for a short time. An irreconcilable difference in beliefs festers for a long time, especially if one belief is suppressed, as you suggest, by liberal politicians who have already voiced that intent.

The democratic party has been the predominant party in American politics since the beginning. Opposition parties exist to counteract excesses. The Federalists, the Whigs, and the Republican parties are the major players. Numerous minority opposition parties diluted the effect of the big three, yet the big three were able to journey through the Electoral College to political supremacy because they offered a choice to the type of excesses we witness today. (Watch the Fox News special Sunday night on Congressional earmarks.)

I know it won?t happen this election cycle. I doubt it will happen in my lifetime. However, (my favorite liberal word) the similarities of division present in the US now strongly resemble the moods of the mid-nineteenth century. The rancor and anger is unprecedented in my lifetime.

It is my hope that voters move from both recognized parties and return to the original ideals of the Constitution as represented by a new or newly defined political party.

However, (there?s that word again) IMHO, the reason that won?t happen is not the math of the Electoral College, but the math of the US education system. The majority of University graduates are indoctrinated, not educated.

As a frequent visitor to your city I would invite you to pursue this discussion over lunch somewhere downtown. What fun that would be, eh?
