So the Royal Navy cannot afford even one CVN yet we (the US) can afford TEN!?! Not to mention the dozen other ships required to escort, protect and supply them. Is our economy really 40 times bigger than theirs?

The USN does have around ten times the personnel of the RN. Hell the USMC is bigger than the entire UK military. For decades the RN operated 3 small carriers, 50 or so destroyers and escorts and a few dozen attack subs. They simply have chosen to cut defense spending to around 2.5% of GDP where we're spending around 4.5% and thus over ten times as much in dollars.

No-one else runs a CVN either - the only other nuclear powered aircraft carrier afloat (occasionally) is the Charles De Gaulle, which is slightly under half the size of a Ford.

Which is why the next Ford built will prolly be the LAST Ford built. Either the F-35 is so damn good or so damn expensive that we will only need/afford 36 per carrier. In either case we don't need/can't afford a 100k ton ship with a 3000 person crew.

Your GDP is 7 times larger and you run a considerably more deficit every year. Your public debt in dollars is 9 times higher.
So yes, you can outspend them by ALOT on this issue even before thinking of how differently the budgets are prioritized.

Ah, so we're not talking about a Ford but rather a
Renault...

Well, the decision has been announced, F35B it is...
Time will tell whether that was wisdom or folly..
