"LCSs (Littoral Control Ship)" - should have read "LCSs (Littoral Combat Ship)".

This news is not really news. Four unmanned helicopters and none manned pretty much tells you they are performing constabulary missions and gathering data. The ship's main armament is its air wing and to have it entirely made up of UAV means light rockets with the remaining armament being on board the ship and all for last ditch defense. And this sort of mission is not unexpected. So no sub hunting or mine fighting. It is constabulary.

What do you know? Inside the usual ignorance ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, there was actually a cogent observation of what is really wrong with the LCS as a concept.

And a rather useless concept. $500 USD per copy for something you can do from a BARGE?

Sea Systems Command needs to be cleaned out top to bottom and that place staffed with true engineers and NWC graduates!

Edit, that should read "$500 million USD"

You just do not get it. This vessel is designed to fight in some one else littorals. We do not have any "barge" that can do all of what this vessel does. Neither does any one else. Name me one country that has a vessel that is worth less than $450 million with a hangar, mission bay and the ability to operate two helos and one UAV and still clear mines, fight swarms, deploy search and seizure parties, small special forces teams, pull a sonar, etc.

And do not forget that it is rigged to carry and anti-ship missile. That they are still searching for that.

The old Perrys could not do all this.

You just do not get it.

Says the one who cannot analyze clearly and see the central fail in any paradigm he addresses.

Look, no one respects a person who cannot adapt to the truth. Or who knows ZERO about the topic.

That French vessel looks like a coast guard cutter.

Are you sure you want to make this your best shot at the LCS?

The mistake that you made is so common among the amateurs but given your experience here and what you should have already learned about the LCS you should have avoided it. Practically all patrol vessels are designed to function close to their own shores and in the instance of this French vessel for even less than that since it is missing crucial self defense weapons. This one in particular was never actually bought by the French and I doubt they will.

An LCS is designed to function in the enemy's littoral waters (not yours), chase coastal subs, clear mines and handle swarm attacks. The LCS has a substantial air component and not just one helicopter and a tiny hangar like this one does.

And of course, this French does not have a mission bay and neither can it drop and recover unmanned vessels into the water. It is like night and day.

For fighting mines a mission bay is needed as well as a crane of sorts to drop and recover the unmanned vehicles.

So keep on looking.

It is, but you asked a VERY stupid question and I supplied the rather intelligent answer.

That French vessel looks like a coast guard cutter.

Are you sure you want to make this your best shot at the LCS?

LCS...

Range: 3,500 nmi (6,500 km; 4,000 mi) at 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph)[4]
Endurance: 21 days (336 hours)

L'Adroit

Range: 8,000 nmi (14,800 km; 9,200 mi) at 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph)
Endurance: 30 days

NONE of which it ACTUALLY does.  [keffler]

And of course, this French does not have a mission bay and neither can it drop and recover unmanned vessels into the water. It is like night and day.

You were wrong about two things; The French actually did BUY one and test it, [and it looks like they will buy more] And the thing is a French take on the highly successful MEKO design wqhich means it is MODULAR and can take modules if you want to buy them.

And you do not need a slide ramp to launch and recover USVs or a module to communicate with them. It comes complete with the  CRANE and a multipurpose ROV comm center.

For fighting mines a mission bay is needed as well as a crane of sorts to drop and recover the unmanned vehicles.

See above, you rank AMATEUR.

So keep on looking.

Don't have too, but take your own advice. One day you may actually see something, blind man.

What I really admire is the enthusiasm with which you either make jokes or get confused. Rest assured that if I have a fishery to protect I will certainly think about this ship even though I do not think it is even a close match for one of our Coast Guard cutters.

In a more serious bend...  do you really have a good example?
