Some 10,000 Christians in majority Christian towns of Gombe state rioted against the approaching introduction of Sharia law. The rioters, mostly young men, were members of the minority Tangale tribe. Similar, but smaller, demonstrations have taken place in other northern states ready to impose Sharia law.
