The Air Force wants to upgrade all of its C-130s that have at least 10,000 hours of service life left to a new standard digital configuration known as C-130X. This will amount to about 450 aircraft. The Air Force wants to buy a few C-130Js to replace the oldest aircraft, but has warned Lockheed that it can only afford a few of the planes and that Lockheed will just have to "run at a profit on what we can afford to buy".--Stephen V Cole
