Air Transportation: USAF Gives Army Half A C-17

Archives

November 7, 2009: The U.S. Air Force has given the U.S. Army a C-17 fuselage, long used for testing the ability to load and position cargos on C-17s. The 55 meter long fuselage is being sent, by ship, from southern California to the Army Transportation School in Virginia. There, the fuselage will replace a more primitive C-17 fuselage mockup the army had been using to make sure new equipment, or modified gear, could easily be loaded into a C-17. The army will make the C-17 fuselage available to the air force, and other services, when they need to double check the transportability of their equipment.
