The French have conducted successful test firings of the Krasnopol 155mm high-precision (laser-guided) artillery shell developed jointly with Russia. The tests were intended to show that the round is fully compatible with Western 155mm artillery systems and the French Cilas DHY307 laser designator-rangefinder. The five test rounds engaged three tanks, a concrete wall, and a bunker; all were destroyed. The rounds were fired from ranges of 10.2km to 11.1km; the targets were designated by lasers from ranges of 1.5km through 2.7km.--Stephen V Cole
