A series of new reports ordered by the Pentagon has shown that the last and worst casualties of modern war occur long after the battle due to exposures to minute traces of chemical and biological weapons, diseases endemic to distant battlefields, and the psychological stress of combat. The report calls for serious work on decontaminating troops (even when contamination is thought to be trivial), and counseling troops on exactly what risks they are facing to their long-term health. --Stephen V Cole
