Renault, Volvo, DAF of the Netherlands, and Western Star of Canada have withdrawn from the $240 million competition to provide 1,370 new trucks to the Dutch Army, saying that the special configurations that the Dutch Army wants would be too expensive to develop. Another potential contractor, Inveco, was excluded because its trucks did not meet specifications. This leaves only Daimler Chrysler and Scania in the contest.--Stephen V Cole
