Strategic Weapons: The Cost of Maintaining Missiles

Archives

January14, 2007: The U.S. Navy will pay about $400,000 a year for maintenance on each of its Trident II D5 SLBM (sea launched ballistic missiles). Currently, twelve of the fourteen Ohio class SSBNs carry the Trident II D5 (24 missiles each). The other two Ohios will get the D5 missiles when the subs are available for maintenance. The maintenance work includes research and development on new or improved components.
