Britain has agreed to pay the same death benefit to the families of Gurkha soldiers killed on duty as that paid to the families of British-born soldiers.--Stephen V Cole

The European Court of Human Rights has agreed that Britain's Royal Marines can continue to refuse to enlist women. While the Court had been expected to overrule the British ban, its final judgment noted that because the Royal Marines included "special combat units pursuing activities for which sex is a determining factor" that the ban was valid.--Stephen V Cole
