The civilian leaders at the Pentagon came up with the idea to reduce the Army from the current 10 divisions to only eight (while adding four battalions of special forces) but the Army is not going down without a fight. The battle won't affect the FY03 budget but will be a factor in FY04. While the civilian leaders point out that the Army needed only a few battalions for Afghanistan, the Army pointed out that the Afghan War was unique and that the Army needs all 10 divisions to perform its assigned missions.--Stephen V Cole
