Britain has deactivated one of it's three aircraft carriers, thus saving $16 million a year in operating costs. With the Invincible gone, and the Ark Royal undergoing refit, only the Illustrious is available for service. Britain is planning to build two new and larger carriers for $1.2 billion each. These will enter service in 2012.
