The Pentagon has issued a $72 million contract for use of the Iridium satellite telephone system. The original Iridium company went bankrupt when the satellite phone system proved unpopular and hence unprofitable. A new company, Iridium Satellite, has purchased the assets (i.e., the orbiting flock of satellites) of the old company.--Stephen V Cole
