To prevent its GPS signals (which guide bombs among other things) from being jammed, the US plans to install more powerful transmitters on the next series of GPS satellites (the GPS-2F and GPS-2R types). The Pentagon is building 26 of the new satellites, and at least 20 of them will have the new transmitters that are 10dB louder than the old ones.--Stephen V Cole
