Weapons: Clip On Sniper Night Sight

Archives

January9, 2007: The U.S. Marine Corps is replacing it's snipers night sight with a clip on unit (MUNS, or Magnum Universal Night Sight). The new night sight eliminates the need to switch sights, and is also superior to the current night sight. The MUNS gives about fifty percent better performance than the current sight. MUNS enables the sniper to identify vehicles out to about three kilometers, and individuals out to 1,300 meters. MUNS weighs 3.2 pounds, runs on two AA batteries (for about 60 hours) and costs about $8,500 each. The marines plan to eventually buy 4,700 of the new sights.
