MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Feb. 28, 2009) The guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) crashes through heavy seas in the Mediterranean. Vella Gulf is deployed as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group supporting maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.
