About have of western China's Xinjiang province's people are Moslem and there is increasing armed resistance from small numbers of Moslem separatists. In a classic Chinese approach to the situation, several thousand government officials ("communist party cadres") are being sent in to go door to door. The cadres will try and convince the Moslems to not support the armed resistance. This often works, for the communists have long used this personal, and non-violent, approach with great success. May not work here because the Xinjiang Moslems don't consider themselves Chinese..
