In a major development, China has obtained from Ukraine the key engine maintenance technology that Russia has long refused to sell it. China reportedly paid $20 million for the technology, without which it would have to ship the engines of its Russian-built Su-30 fighters back to Russia for overhaul.--Stephen V Cole
