Taiwanese newspapers revealed that the US National Security Agency has long maintained a secret electronic listening facility on Taiwan, just outside the capital. This is no surprise, as it was long assumed that such cooperation took place. The facility, which is actually run by the Taiwanese National Security Bureau, can catch radio signals as far as 500 kilometers away. In addition to monitoring Chinese military activity, the listening post also provides early warning of a Chinese attack.
