Cai Xiaohong, secretary general of the Chinese Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, has been arrested and accused of spying for Britain. Cai Xiaohong is the son and grandson of senior Communist Party officials. He is said to have received over a million dollars for supplying "state secrets" to Britain. China usually tries to keep these espionage cases quiet, but in this case the Hong Kong media got hold of it. It is known that a Chinese general and colonel were arrested and executed for espionage in 1999, and several more senior officers are thought to have been arrested since then.
