Israel: A Rain Of Rockets Ruins Peace Talks

Archives

June 26, 2012: In the last eight days Palestinian terrorists have fired over 150 rockets and mortar shells from Gaza into southern Israel. Five Israelis have been wounded. Israel counter attacks on terrorist targets in Gaza have killed at least twelve and wounded about a hundred. Hamas has tried to arrange several ceasefires, but none have worked. The problem is that Hamas is unwilling to control the smaller Islamic terror groups in Gaza that will not abide by any ceasefire and continue to attack Israel with rockets and mortar shells. So far this year, only 400 rockets and mortar shells have been fired from Gaza into southern Israel.

Hamas and Fatah both continue to increase the amount of anti-Israel propaganda they broadcast on media outlets (TV, radio, Internet, print) they control. This has become a problem for foreign aid organizations, including the UN, that contribute a lot of money and other aid to Palestinians. That's because some of this aid is blatantly being used to pay for the "Israel must be destroyed" propaganda. At the same time, Western nations continue to pressure Israel to make peace with the Palestinians. But according to what the Palestinian leadership preaches to their own people, the only acceptable solution is the destruction of Israel. Pressure from the West to drop this genocidal goal is ignored (publicly by Hamas, privately by Fatah). Even Arab allies of the Palestinians are urging real peace negotiations, but the Palestinian leadership wants no part of that.

June 25, 2012: Twelve Israeli soldiers were arrested for collaborating with Bedouin smugglers in the Sinai. The twelve soldiers, including two officers, were Bedouins from southern Israel who belonged to a reconnaissance unit that patrols the desert border with Egypt. The arrested soldiers took bribes from the smugglers to move drugs across the border and keep the smugglers informed of Israeli patrol schedules along the border. Corruption among Bedouin soldiers has long been a problem.

Israeli air strikes in Gaza killed four and wounded twenty.

June 24, 2012: Egyptian election officials declared Islamic Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Mursi as the new president. A week earlier the military commission (temporarily running Egypt) took away many powers from the president and transferred them to the military. The military does not want a true democracy. It appears that the military, which took over as a "caretaker government" after Mubarak was tossed out over a year ago, is trying to get Mubarak cronies back into power. The military has long been known as just another part of the corrupt dictatorship, and many generals feared prosecution for that if a true democracy was established. The major rebel and reform groups have not decided what to do about this counter-revolution.

June 22, 2012: Two Israeli air strikes hit terrorist targets in Gaza. The main target was the terror group that claimed responsibility for the June 18th attack on the border. Since then, about 130 rockets and mortar shells have been fired into southern Israel.

June 21, 2012: Despite a Hamas arranged cease fire, three long range rockets were fired from Gaza towards Ashkelon. Iron Dome shot down one, while the other two landed in an uninhabited area. This came several hours after a single rocket was fired into southern Israel. Earlier in the day Hamas said it would prevent any rockets from being fired from Gaza if Israel halted its retaliatory attacks. In the last three days some 120 rockets and mortar shells have been fired into southern Israel, where about a million people live.

June 20, 2012: Palestinian terrorists fired 69 rockets from Gaza into southern Israel.

June 19, 2012: Palestinian terrorists fired 47 rockets from Gaza into southern Israel. Hamas took credit for about half of them

American officials confirmed that several successful Cyber War attacks on Iraq (Stuxnet, Duqu, and Flame) were indeed the product of a joint American-Israeli effort. Iran is being targeted by a larger Cyber War assault of which the three known software systems are only a part.

June 18, 2012: Two Arab terrorists (an Egyptian and a Saudi) crossed the Egyptian border and attacked men building the new border fence. One of the workers (an Israeli Arab) was killed along with the two terrorists. Israel promptly launched air strikes on terrorist targets in Gaza, and Hamas joined with smaller terror groups to fire rockets into southern Israel.
