Troops on Jolo caught up with the Abu Sayyaf band holding American hostage Jeffrey Shilling. Troops attacked a rebel camp, causing the rebels to scatter and enabling them to rescue the American hostage. Schilling was in good health, although haggard from his seven month ordeal. Troops also attacked another Abu Sayyaf camp, killing four rebels.
